The National Business Group on Health, a non-profit association of large U.S. employers, today honored Life Technologies for its ongoing commitment and dedication to promoting a healthy workplace and encouraging its workers and families to pursue and maintain healthy lifestyles.

Life Technologies was among 65 U.S. employers that received the 2013 Best Employers for Healthy Lifestyles® award at the Leadership Summit sponsored by the National Business Group on Health’s Institute on Innovation in Workforce Well-being. Life Technologies received a Gold Award for its Healthy Life wellness program offerings.  This marks the first year the company has received the award.

“As a life sciences company, we are dedicated to improving the human condition, and that commitment is the foundation of our corporate culture,” said Pete Leddy, senior vice president of global human resources at Life Technologies. “Two years ago, we launched an ambitious health and wellness program with a straightforward goal – to improve the health of employees and their families while holding health care costs flat for the company and employees. Since then, we’ve achieved reductions in blood pressure and cholesterol levels, and seen significant improvements in overall health status and risks.”

From progressive programs designed to connect people to enhanced medical support services to offering an environment where healthy eating, daily exercise and no tobacco use are part of corporate culture, Life Technologies is improving the health of employees. The company has made fitness centers available at many locations and offers reimbursement to help employees pay for a fitness center membership.  Telephone coaching and online education courses are available to all employees and spouses on topics including nutrition, physical activity, weight management, stress management, tobacco cessation, high blood pressure, cholesterol, as well as general health and wellness. In addition, biometric screenings are available at all U.S. locations.

Helen Darling, President and CEO of the National Business Group on Health, commented:  “We are proud to honor Life Technologies Corporation for its ongoing commitment to providing lifestyle improvement programs that encourage healthy lifestyles for their employees.  Life Technologies is among an elite group of organizations that are leading the way to promoting healthy workplaces and lifestyles.   Life Technologies and its management team should be proud of their commitment to their program and we congratulate them on receiving this award.

Winners of the “Best Employers for Healthy Lifestyles®” awards were honored in one of two categories: Platinum, for established healthy weight, healthy lifestyles” programs with measurable success and documented outcomes; or Gold, for creating cultural and environmental changes that support employees who are committed to long-term behavior changes.
