Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Is the iBlot® 2 Gel Transfer Device compatible with original iBlot® Transfer Stacks?
A: No. Do not use iBlot® Transfer Stacks in the iBlot® 2 Gel Transfer Device, and do not mix components between iBlot® Transfer Stacks and iBlot® 2 Transfer Stacks.
Q: Are consumables still available for the original iBlot® Gel Transfer Device?
A: Yes, all original iBlot® stacks are still available for purchase. You can find them in the original iBlot® Gel Transfer Device Reagents and Resources.
Q: What is the shelf life of the iBlot® 2 Transfer Stacks?
A: It is currently 9 months, and the expiration date is printed on the box.
Q: Can I use the stacks after the expiration date?
A: No. The results may be inferior after the expiration date.
Q: Can the iBlot® 2 be used for transfer of low- and high–molecular weight proteins?
A: Yes. However, minor optimizations in the transfer protocol (i.e., steps, voltage, time) may be needed for some proteins.
Q: Can I create my own transfer conditions?
A: Yes. The device allows programming custom methods.
Q: Can I perform multiple transfers, with a new transfer starting immediately after the previous one?
A: Yes. The device is designed to do so with no impact on performance.
Q: Can I use the stack and/or absorbent pad more than once?
A: No. They are disposable and should only be used once.
Q: Are the iBlot® 2 PVDF and NC membranes compatible with fluorescent antibodies or membrane staining (e.g., LI-COR®, Ponceau S)?
A: The membranes are compatible with all commonly used detection methods such as staining, immunodetection, fluorescence, etc.
Q: Can I replace the membrane with my preferred membrane?
A: It is possible but the results may be inferior.
Q: Is the PVDF membrane pre-activated?
A: Yes. The PVDF membrane is pre-activated and ready for use without having to perform any pre-treatment with alcohol.
Q: Can I cut the membrane to fit my separating gel?
A: No. Maintain the membrane size identical to the transfer stacks. This helps ensure that there is no direct contact between the top and bottom transfer stacks.
Q: Can I cut the bottom stack to fit my separating gel?
A: No. Do not trim the iBlot® 2 Transfer Stacks to fit your gel size.
Q: If a green color appears on the membrane after the transfer, will it affect the results?
A: No. It will not affect the western results.
